Missions and Outreach at Fairview
Fairview supports missions and outreach in numerous ways. The school, youth, Women of the Church of God (WCG), Children’s Ministry and other programs all work to meet the needs of people in various parts of the world. Additionally the Church supports other efforts by setting aside 10% of the income from general offerings for outreach. Some of that goes to tuition assistance for students at the Fairview Christian School, some goes to local charities such as the Salvation Army and City Team, or to community wide events such as the Harvest Party, Warner Pacific College foreign projects in Asia, Costa Rica and Africa, and financial assistance for Work Camp opportunities. For another example, the school and Children’s Ministry raised money to help a school in Louisiana rebuild its roof after Hurricane Katrina demolished their original roof last fall.
Fairview’s Missions and Outreach Committee is comprised of individuals from within the fellowship who are interested in spreading the Gospel, both locally and globally. Our current members are Carol Lundemo, Leslie Nimmer, Dean and Christel Peterson, Clarice Preston, Norm Rogers and Kay Gjerding, chairwoman.
The Committee plans events to raise awareness of needs around the world and asks the body to fund these needs by going over and above the tithe, sometimes through a Faith Promise Pledge. In recent years these funds have gone to Venezuela, Hong Kong, ministry in a Muslim country, Mediterranean Bible College, and Mediterranean Region National Leaders. Closer to home we sent support to a pastor at the Tulalip Indian Mission, Prisoners for Christ, Christian Brotherhood Academy, Life Choices of King County and Bridge Ministries for the Disabled.
Check out our upcoming missions events and speakers and watch for Missions Updates in you Sunday Bulletin, and for Missions Moments during our Sunday Worship Service.
